  25. ;- A flight of about 30 flying saucers was observed at 10:35 ;
  26. ;a.m. (PST) today over the San Carlos area, Stanley Miramon  ;
  27. ;and his mother, Mrs. Marie Maranta reported.                ;
  28. ;                                                            ;
  29. ;  Miramon said the group circled over one spot northeast of ;
  30. ;San Carlos, at an altitude of 2,000 feet. They were round,  ;
  31. ;silvery in color, and "about the size of an automobile."    ;

  33. ;  He said a two engine transport plane was in the same      ;
  34. ;general area and it appeared the pilot saw the "things" and ;
  35. ;headed toward them.                                         ;

  68. ;Army research experts can't explain the "flying saucers"    ;
  69. ;reported in several states, but they're investigating, they ;
  70. ;said.                                                       ;
  71. ;                                                            ;
  72. ;They are even considering the possibility, however remote,  ;
  73. ;that some foreign power may have something to do with the   ;
  74. ;flying discs.                                               ;
  75. ;                                                            ;
  76. ;The Army Air Forces checked all of their research           ;
  77. ;authorities and contractors, but none of them knew or could ;
  78. ;suggest anything concrete about the saucers.                ;
  79. ;                                                            ;
  80. ;At first Army officers laughed off the reports.  Now, they  ;
  81. ;are beginning to take them at least a little seriously.  At ;
  82. ;any rate, the Air research center at Wright Field is looking;
  83. ;into the reports, and all service intelligence agencies are ;
  84. ;at work on them.  Army experts suggested - as a bare        ;
  85. ;possibility - that some civilian investor has been making   ;
  86. ;some experiments of some kind.                              ;

  123. ;A flight of "flying saucers" has been reported in eastern   ;
  124. ;Canada but reaction there to the mystery missiles reported  ;
  125. ;earlier in nine states of the United States was "they're    ;
  126. ;probably leftovers from the mad hatter's tea party minus    ;
  127. ;cups, of course."                                           ;
  128. ;                                                            ;
  129. ;Dr. and Mrs. C.K. Gunn and two friends said they saw strange;
  130. ;objects "traveling at great speed high in the sky" last     ;
  131. ;Tuesday near their home at Summerside on Prince Edward      ;
  132. ;island.                                                     ;

  134. ;Roland Phillipson, one of the four, described the objects as;
  135. ;shapeless, but glistening in the sunlight.                  ;
  136. ;                                                            ;
  137. ;Father Burke-Gaffney, astronomer and dean of engineering at ;

  139. ;"outside the realm of astronomy." Another Canadian source   ;

  156. ;A U.S. meteorologist, E.E. Unger of Louisville, said he saw ;
  157. ;a circular object flying through the air Tuesday night as he;
  158. ;left a neighborhood theater.  He said it was moving about   ;

  160. ;Mrs. Louis Goldstein, wife of a deputy sheriff at Monterrey,;
  161. ;California, reported she saw one of the "flying saucers" or ;
  162. ;discs at 7:45 a.m. (PST) today while looking out a window of;
  163. ;her home by Monterrey airport.  "I know people will say I'm ;
  164. ;crazy, but I saw a quite-rounded flying object, not         ;
  165. ;circular, with a red glow on one edge." Mrs. Goldstein said.;
  166. ;"I saw it for 10 or 15 seconds - then, suddenly it          ;
  167. ;vanished."                                                  ;

  169. ;Airlines reported no planes in flight in the area at the    ;
  170. ;time.  The only plane at the airport was grounded.          ;
  171. ;The projectiles, variously described as "too fast for an    ;
  172. ;airplane and not fast enough for a falling star," "not      ;
  173. ;moving at all," and "traveling at great speed," were        ;
  174. ;reported seen again Thursday night streaking over Denver.   ;

  176. ;It was the third report of the "saucers" this week, while   ;
  177. ;persons in Idaho, Oregon, California, New Mexico and other  ;
  178. ;states reported seeing various versions of the unexplained  ;

  181. ;Mrs. L.M. Wagoner and her eight-year-old son of Sherman,    ;
  182. ;Texas reported they saw a flying disc about 7 p.m. Sunday   ;

  184. ;said the disc, about the size of a man's hat, was traveling ;
  185. ;northward and disappeared in a few seconds.                 ;

  187. ;A Dallas man, Tom Dean, said he and his wife and daughter   ;
  188. ;saw a disc-shaped object "going like blue blazes from       ;
  189. ;northeast to southwest at cloud level" Tuesday while        ;

  191. ;resembled a flattened-out balloon and was in sight for 12   ;

  195. ;over El Paso, Texas, at 3:30 p.m.  MST, Sunday, June 22,    ;

  197. ;Dickson, an optometrist.  He said it was shaped a little    ;
  198. ;like a blimp, coming to a point at each end.  The sun's rays;
  199. ;were not reflected on it, he added.                         ;

  201. ;Lt. Gov. Donald S. Whitehead of Idaho said today that he saw;
  202. ;a strange comet-like object hanging high in the western sky ;
  203. ;on June 24.  That was the day Kenneth Arnold, Boise, Idaho, ;
  204. ;first reported seeing the projectiles over southeastern     ;
  205. ;Washington.                                                 ;

  207. ;Their stories varied.  Arnold had estimated the projectiles ;
  208. ;speed at 1,200 miles an hour.  Whitehead said the objects he;
  209. ;and three other witnesses saw "didn't move, but just seemed ;

  211. ;At Denver Henry Martin and Walter Harrod said they caught a ;
  212. ;brief glimpse of a group of "bright objects" flying at about;
  213. ;5,000 feet Thursday night.  Martin said they looked like    ;
  214. ;coffee can cups.  They were traveling in a southwesterly    ;
  215. ;direction, he said.                                         ;

  217. ;State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Menary, of San Francisco's  ;
  218. ;Golden Gate Bridge detail, reported seeing a dozen bright   ;
  219. ;metal objects "about the size of a football" whiz over San  ;
  220. ;Francisco Bay June 24 and fall into the sea.                ;

  223. ;discs high over Bakersfield, California, going from 200 to  ;
  224. ;400 miles an hour June 23.  There were ten of them in a     ;

  227. ;At Bath, South Carolina, Jack Reams reported that last week ;
  228. ;he saw a disc 12 inches in diameter, giving off a small     ;
  229. ;weird light as it whizzed through the sky at a tremendous   ;
